Before Our Visit
Thank you for having me into your home! First and foremost, I want you to be stress-free for our visit together. Please don't pick up or clean before I come. I promise I will have tunnel vision on you and your baby, and I won't be looking at the dishes in the sink or the laundry piling up. I often suggest to let go of household chores and spend more time with your baby, anyhow. Just put on your comfiest clothes and get your favorite nursing spot ready.
No need to make your baby wait to eat until I arrive, as it’s nearly impossible to get a hungry, upset baby to latch. If your baby is hungry right before our visit, it's ok to feed them for a few minutes before I arrive. If supplementing, about 10ml of formula or breastmilk would be ideal.
Partners, family members or close friends are welcome to attend our visit. It's very helpful to have another pair of eyes and ears present to learn and pick up information for you.
I love animals, but animals love their owners more! We will be working up close and personal, which can trigger protective feelings in some furry friends. Please have a safe place they can rest while we work. Thanks in advance!
During Our Visit
Review pregnancy/delivery and medical history of you and your baby.
Physical assessment of you and your baby as it relates to breastfeeding.
Discuss your breastfeeding experience and concerns thus far.
Discuss expectations, goals and answer any questions you may have.
Observation a full feeding with attention to latch, positioning, and your comfort.
Pumping instructions, if necessary.
Most visits are very hands-on and full of practice, especially for latch issues. So please don’t hesitate to tell me if something doesn’t feel right. (e.g: your arm is cramping up from a certain holding position) I really do want to know what’s working for you so that we can come up the plan that best allows you to meet your nursing goals.
Don't worry about remembering everything we discuss at our visit. I will email you in great detail about everything we talk about - including videos, product links and articles for reference.
After Our Visit
Within 48 hrs, you will receive an email asking how you're doing! I will also send along your individual care plan and your coded receipt (Superbill) which you may submit to your insurance company for reimbursement. See Insurance Info for further information HERE.
I try to give my clients few days to process and practice with baby before checking in. However, you are more than welcome to call/email me with any concerns from our visit before then.
All consults include two weeks of email support for your current breastfeeding issue. If I don't hear from you, I will assume all is well, so please keep in touch if you need anything during this time frame.
I love hearing from my past clients! Please be in touch along your journey!
